I am very excited to be at Madison Elementary School this year. It is awesome seeing all the students ready to learn, parents ready to help and teachers excited educate! I have been in Des Moines Public Schools for 11 years. I have taught, 1st grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade and ELL. Madison has the best teachers there are and I’m excited to be part of your child’s growth and development.
Welcome to Madison Elementary – home of the LIONS! We’re so excited about the start of this school year and partnering with you in your child’s education. Madison is such a special place to be. We have dedicated teachers and supportive families. I look forward to playing a role in fostering a learning environment conducive to high levels of learning for all students at Madison. Before beginning at Madison, I started my career as a teacher in Des Moines (at Brody Middle), taught out west for several years (Elementary and Middle School), and came back to DMPS as an Instructional Coach at Moulton. After that, I became the Elementary Math Coordinator for our district for a few years. I hold a bachelor’s degree in elementary and middle level education from University of Northern Iowa, and a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies from Iowa State University.
I have had the opportunity to serve as the school counselor at Madison Elementary School since 2004. I received my undergraduate degree from Drake University and my master’s degree from Iowa State University. I also love to continue to learn by taking classes and attending conferences so that I can improve my skills and abilities as a school counselor.
At Madison, I work with students individually, in small groups, and in large group during weekly classroom counseling. My work with students focuses on social/emotional development, academic success, and career exploration. I want all of our students to be successful when it comes to their attendance, behavior, and achievement! In my free time, I love to spend time with my family and friends, travel, and read a good book!
