Battle of the Books Team Beats All!

The Madison Battle of the Books team finished in first place at the regional Battle of the Books competition held on Thursday, March 27th at Harding Middle School.  Team members Brianna Cobb, Nick Goergen, Ewonugbome Ibaakee, Sara Perdue, Kelsie Reed, Cynthia Renes and Ixchel Sarabia spent six months reading from a pre-selected list of 40 books, studying story details and author’s names along the way.  Brianna Cobb, Ewonugbome Ibaakee, and Cynthia Renes read all 40 books themselves, each earning an additional medal for their accomplishment.  The team continues on to the district battle of the Books finals held on Friday, April 18th where they will compete against  the first place finishers from the other three regions to determine the top team in the district.  Battle of the Books is a part of the Gifted Education Program for the Des Moines Public Schools.
