Busy Busy Fifth Grade

Fifth GradeWhat a busy time of the year for fifth graders!  They have all been busy working to prepare for 6th grade.  We finished our fraction unit and have almost completed our decimal unit.  The students have really started to see the connections between fractions and decimals.

In reading, we are now in our 5th unit.  Our focus will be on how a story is put together, determining the main ideas of many accounts of a story and analyzing the different points of view.

The tradition of Madison’s Spelling Bee continued on March 4, 2014.  There were 19 top spellers that competed for the top two places.  All of the participants were winners since each contestant was selected on their spelling scores from the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year. It is so difficult to spell in front of your peers and family members and yet each child gave their best effort during the spelling bee.   Congratulations to Cynthia Renes and Isaiah Stoker, first and second place contestants.

Of course, we are all excited about the Northside Night of Music.  Many of the students will be participating in this wonderful gathering of students who will share their musical talents.  This night certainly brings all of us together to enjoy and celebrate our youth from elementary through high school.
