Creativity Happening After School!
Art and Drumming Club is in full swing at Madison. Second and Third Graders have been invited to attend an after school club that blends the creative aspects of art, music, and cultural awareness. During our first meeting we worked on basic rhythm patterns and hand drum technique while learning songs from the Ottawa and Comanche Nations. Opposite the Music room students in the Art room spent their creative energy creating dream catchers, a tradition that stems from the Ojibwa Nation. For our second meeting students built drums out of repurposed materials and started the creative process on developing dances to go along with the songs and rhythms we have been learning. We are getting very excited to share what we have been learning with our community on December 9th for Madison’s Creative Arts Showcase, “Turnaround the Night!”
