Madison Students Exploring After School!

IMG_0086A Parent/Child Workshop sponsored by The Des Moines Public Schools Gifted Department was designed to allow students and parents to work together while learning. 141 parents and children from across the district attended 12 different hands-on workshops bridging science, culture, and the arts. Topics ranged from Extracting DNA presented by Iowa State University Woman in Science to Fascinating Folk Instruments presented by Bettie Jane Bibler of the Arts Council. Parents and children explored the solar system, built an electric motor, learned fingerprinting to solve crimes, found their creativity through textiles and cartoons and discovered many other ways to learn together as a family.
