Rockin’ and Repurposin’
Six of Madison’s 4th grade students had an exciting opportunity last week at the Civic Center thanks to Des Moines Performing Arts. Students experienced a ‘Found Sound’ workshop with Scrap Arts Music artists. Students were ushered unto the Civic Center stage, which was filled with musical instruments created with repurposed materials. Students created rhythms on rubber tubing and notes on the bottoms of steel pots to create their music. Students participated in a drum circle using repurposed materials found in scrap yards with the artist. The most important thing students walked away with was the importance of recycling and repurposing. Students had a great time learning to take care of the planet while rocking out on some loud and interesting created instruments! The following day all 4th grade students experienced Scrap Arts Music live at the Civic Center.
