Breaking News from Madison Elementary!

This just in: 3rd grade students at Madison Elementary are also newscasters! Arts Integration plays a major role in the way Northside schools operate. The arts are valued and used as a tool to each core subjects. This year at Madison Elementary upper grades focused on a new arts strategy, Curriculum Based Reader’s Theatre. CBRT is a technique that asks students to use content knowledge from subjects like math, science, or social studies to write reader’s theatre scripts. Students in 3rd grade chose to use CBRT to write a news report about the fascinating topic of migration. Small groups of students researched one animal and found key details about migration from multiple books and articles. Students wrote dialogue and even added sound effects and gestures for entertainment value. Students’ had ownership over their script and enjoyed sharing it with others in the class. The final product was a great way to see drama skills in action and assess student learning. Back to you in the studio!
