Helping Your Child Build Positive Relationships–

Social Skills–Asking to Join (Week of Jan 7)

When thinking of ways that we can help our children build positive relationships, we often do not consider one of the easiest methods to teach them.  Reading fiction texts with kids often helps them learn positive ways to interact with others and handle social problems.  Often times in stories, the main character is faced with an issue where he or she needs to handle a tough situation with another child.  Over the course of the story, the character has to consider different ways to handle to problem and then eventually try it.  As a reader, we get a lot of insight into the main character’s action.  The time we spend reading to our kids at home, pays off in helping them build positive relationships with peers.  Please consider this during the next two weeks.
