Helping Your Child Build Positive Relationships

Helping Your Child Build Positive Relationships:  As a parent, one thing I am always thinking about is the importance of making sure my child has the “emotional bank” to deal with the stress of school.  By this, I mean that they leave our house each day ready to deal with the challenges of working with others.  Some things that we can do to help our kids start their day well would be:

  • Maintain control over our own emotions as we struggle to get everyone out the door.  In other words, be calm in the morning.
  • Make sure they get at least 8 hours of sleep.  As we all know, its hard to be happy and positive when we are tired.
  • Start their day with some positive comments.  This can be tough since we need to make sure everyone has all of their stuff, but it can make all the difference with our kids.  Reminding them that you love them, is a great start to your day and their day.
  • Have kids to a calming activity such as read, draw or write.  These task can be sort of like meditation to a kid.  It helps them get their head around the activities of the day.
  • Stay away from electronics.  Transitioning from the the “electronic world” to the “real word” can be challenging for most kids.  Its best to avoid these devices before school

Last of, I want to remind you that the teachers and I are cheering for you and your family.  We want to help you be your best!

Thanks,

Mr. Heaberlin
